Discussion and Recommendations
MCC’s Mission states “Mesalands Community College is an institution of higher education that promotes student learning through quality education and services on-campus, off-site and online, while fostering personal growth, leadership, and opportunity to a culturally diverse community” (n.a., Mesalands Community College Strategic Plan: Academic Years 2021-2025, 2020). From the needs analysis, to the internship, the evaluation plan, the continued work, to this final report, MCC is taking the first step in being awarded Accreditation from the HLC to be approved to offer a fully online distance education program. Now more than ever, MCC needs finish the final steps to offer fully online degrees, which will enhance the chances of increasing enrollment for both offsite and online. This Internship only covered one of the seven items that needs to be complete prior for applying for Accreditation. My recommendation is that as soon as the new President is hired, he/she begins working towards this goal and completes any of the remaining items that are still outstanding. MCC has the opportunity to grow online, as there are programs that are unique to this institution. Not all programs offered can be online for every course but if the student completes the majority of courses online, they can come to campus and do the climbs for the Wind Energy Degree. MCC needs to think “outside the box” when marketing begins for online degrees.
